Each Friday of Lent, the Knights of Columbus hosts fish fry dinners to raise funds for charity and strengthen community connections. Enjoy freshly fried and new-baked fish, coleslaw, fries, hush puppies, mac and cheese, and iced tea; adult plates cost $12, while children’s dishes are only $6 each.
Dinners will begin being served between 5:30 p.m. and when all food has run out.

Fish fry events at the Knights of Columbus hall at 2525 N. Stadium Blvd in Columbia will begin February 24 and continue every Friday throughout Lent, from 4:30-7 p.m. The dine-in service costs $15 per meal, while the drive-thru is open starting at 3:30 pm.
Food preparation for the annual dinners is handled by an organized volunteer group of Knights and family members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Assembly members from local councils. Each year, chefs put their skills to the test in preparing more than 1,500 meals that sell well to raise money for charity while uniting people across communities.
Knights of Columbus Council 4483 participates in many charitable activities throughout their community, such as hosting an Intellectual Disabilities Tootsie Roll Drive and parish youth programs. Furthermore, this organization holds Clearbrook Dances to benefit intellectually challenged members in the area and help countless families dealing with cancer or other illnesses.
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to any practical Catholic man 18 or over who agrees with its principles and aims. Once joined, members can participate in council activities and attend business meetings to remain current on current issues. With over 1.8 million worldwide members and donations totaling over $1.5 billion going directly towards charity causes worldwide.
To become Knights, applicants must first complete the first-degree ceremony, then advance through the second and third degrees before reaching THE PATRIOTIC DEGREE, representing the pinnacle of achievement within the Order and requiring extensive formation over an extended period.

Volunteer Opportunities
Fish fries have become an annual tradition during Lent when Catholics refrain from eating meat. Not only is this an enjoyable way to meet friends and support local charities, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some councils could not host these Lenten events.
This year, however, they’re back with some changes. For the first time since 2021 and 2022, some councils will host dine-in events instead of drive-thrus; these begin on Feb 24 at the Knights of Columbus hall at 2525 N Stadium Blvd; drive-thrus will start March 3, 10, and 17 (at Father Tolton High School and Newman Center respectively); all meals cost $15 with tickets available online.
The Knights of Columbus is one of the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organizations. Guided by its Charity, Unity, and Fraternity principles, its membership enjoys numerous opportunities to serve parishes, communities, families, young people, and young adults. Membership is open to practicing Catholic men 18 years or older who accept the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals and seek to live according to its precepts.
Knights of Columbus typically donate part of the proceeds from their fish fry sales to local charities and youth programs, such as outdoor athletic spots for kids and Big Brothers Big Sisters in Alberta and Hawaii, respectively. Father Albert Lacombe Knights donated proceeds from their 2018 fish fry sale for this cause; Windward Oahu Council 6307 donated funds towards Ho’ola Na Pua’s Ho’ola Na Pua program, which assists girls in escaping human trafficking.
Individuals looking to join can contact their local councils or the Knights of Columbus website for further information. Membership involves an interview with the Grand Knight and a background check. Once accepted, members must attend two council business meetings and four family and social functions monthly and read church bulletins, newsletters, and state and Supreme Council websites for updates.
Donations
Lent is a season of repentance, prayer, and fasting observed by Christians worldwide. People traditionally abstain from meat during Lent; people gather together on Fridays during Lent to enjoy fish meals instead. At Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus, the council has long held an annual Lenten fish fry to donate proceeds from this event to charitable organizations within our local community. Meals cost $8 per person and feature fish, shrimp, French fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw and coleslaw, and fish meals made famous during Lent.
The Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal organization established in 1882 to foster its principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. K of C Council 717 at 1336 E Lincoln Highway in DeKalb offers an all-you-can-eat fish fry buffet every Friday during Lent, costing $12 for adults and $7 for children. The meal features four different varieties of fish as well as macaroni and cheese, baked potato, French fries, coleslaw salad bar, dessert bar, beverage bar beverage, and beverages available to both dine-in or take-out guests; nonfish eaters may order grilled cheese sandwiches instead for an additional $5 fee; proceeds go directly towards supporting local charity and community events such as Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic Hearts & Hooves Therapy Coast to Crest Trail completion projects since 1986!
